On 7 December the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI) and Moldova's Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) held a workshop in Chisinau to discuss the critical issues of explosives and international drug trafficking.
The event was the culmination of months of research and analysis, including in-person and online interviews, that resulted in two comprehensive reports - one on explosives for civil use, and the other on the investigative needs related to drug trafficking. The workshop was an insightful and collaborative forum aimed at defining short, medium, and long term objectives in addressing the challenges related to the use of explosives and drug trafficking in Moldova and the surrounding region.
Representatives from the Ministry of Internal Affairs reiterated their appreciation for the commitment demonstrated by UNICRI and expressed interest in further enhancing this partnership across 2024. Next efforts will be devoted in support of Moldovan law enforcement agencies to improve their technical capacity and enhance international cooperation with Ukraine and other neighboring countries in combating illicit trafficking and hybrid threats.
