In 2020, the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI), through its Centre for AI and Robotics, and the Ministry of Interior of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) launched the Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Safer Children initiative with the aim of tackling child sexual exploitation and abuse online through the adoption of new technological solutions, specifically in the AI sphere.
This online platform – the Global Hub – was created to display available AI tools and learning resources for preventing and countering the phenomenon. One of the learning resources consists of an 8-stage workflow that ensures an efficient and thorough investigation while maintaining a victim-centred focus on rescuing children in need of help.
