The project launched in 2001 by UNICRI and funded by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs maintained the country’s judicial traditions and pre-existing system based on reconciliation, while at the same time strengthening the institutional and administrative framework of the Angolan Juvenile Justice System.

An effective strategy to mitigate CBRN risks of criminal, accidental or natural origin requires a very high level of co-operation and co-ordination both between different national agencies as well as among Countries and International and Regional Organizations. Lack of harmonization of national preparedness and fragmentation of responsibilities within the regional or international network can reduce effectiveness of prevention strategies and cause delay in response during crisis situation.

 

The initiative aims to give a voice to the victims through the collection of their stories and to make the sharing of their experiences the starting point for the implementation of an awareness campaign to promote future interventions on prevention, development and assistance.

"Voices from Mali" aims at sharing the experiences of the Malian youth pursuing peace and justice in their communities.

UNICRI and the International Center for Counter-Terrorism (ICCT-The Hague) are implementing the project Mali (Dis-)Engagement and Re-Integration related to Terrorism (MERIT) to support efforts to prevent violent extremism, facilitate rehabilitation and reintegration of violent extremist offenders and mitigate the risk of radicalization.
